42 years ago a shy, anxious little boy took his first “karate” class. There were other kids like him in class and some who were very athletic and outgoing. Over a period of years many quit, but he never did. Sometime around 2004 he established his own TaeKwonDo school when he was asked to do so by the director of a local YWCA. Sometime along that path he had met the love of his life and they established a family together. She was, like many new mothers, determined to get her “pre-baby“ body back and began trying all different fad diet‘s and quick fixes to make that happen. Along that path she developed a love for fitness and became certified to coach at a local fitness center. When the TaeKwonDo school began to grow organically and a new space was needed, it was a natural fit to intertwine fitness and martial arts. Midtown Athletics was born right next door to Midtown Martial Arts.
We had the idea that we could provide benefit for the entire family regardless of their preference for physical activity. We have many families where the youngest participates in Midtown Mini’s, big sister in TaeKwonDo, Mom at Midtown Athletics, and Dad takes our cardio kickboxing class, HIIT The Bags. For years, our tagline has been #buildingstrongfamilies and we continue that to be our foremost goal. We believe that not only does a strong body create a strong mind and strong spirit, but that a family who trains together stays together.
